In the early hours of tomorrow morning, I’ll be streaming environmental sounds from where I am, as part of the 12th edition of the Reveil broadcast—an annual event that follows the dawn as it moves across the globe. Beginning at daybreak in London and traveling westward, the stream gathers soundscapes from many places, shared online and over the radio. You can listen in any time this weekend, Saturday through Sunday (it technically begins tonight from the UK). Prefer a soundmap?

My first attempt at joining Reveil was back in 2021, during a self-directed residency at a remote cabin in Kern County. I remember setting up a live feed on a small balcony facing the mountains, just before sunrise. The morning was full of life. I tested the equipment more than once, but when it came time to go live, my signal was too weak to make it through. I adjusted everything I could—pre-amp, mixer, internal sound settings—but in the end, the sound didn’t reach.
This time, I’d like to try again.
Recap: Memoriver Radio at Heavy Manners
I left feeling full and grateful—and also needed a quiet day after to ground myself (introvert things 🕊️). This little project continues to unfold as a kind of social experiment. For the next one, I’m planning to have an in-person sign-up sheet, a printed guide with instructions, and a few scheduled breaks to help the flow feel more spacious and grounded. I also forgot to bring my analog timer. At the same time, I’m really enjoying learning how to hold space for something that doesn’t follow a tight structure—something a little looser, more alive in the moment.
I’m especially thankful to my sister, Jill (Creative Director of third door) for being a guest co-host this time around.
It was heartwarming to see familiar faces and share moments with new ones, too. I’ll be uploading the recording next week if you’d like to listen back.
I’ve also just confirmed a July date for an outdoor space in Eagle Rock—more details to come next month. In the meantime, if you happen to know of a laundromat owner in LA, I’ve been dreaming of bringing Memoriver Radio to a space like that. Other places on my wishlist: a quiet park, a neighborhood market, maybe even somewhere along the LA River. If anything comes to mind, I’d love to hear about it.
When the News Feels Like Too Much
But you still want to stay informed and be in the loop. This On Being episode helped me find a little more clarity.
With care,
